Tribes need full list of economic relief programs, says GAO

By Caleb Symons (August 31, 2022, 7:27 p.m. EDT) – Federal researchers say the U.S. Department of Commerce should publish and maintain a list of government-backed initiatives aimed at advancing the economies of Indigenous tribes, one of the many recommendations of a new study which revealed that this aid is fragmented between several agencies.

In a 72-page report released Tuesday, the U.S. Government Accountability Office identified eight programs that have provided a combined $930 million in development assistance over the past five years, but said tribal groups often ignore these resources because of poor coordination among federal officials.
