The Native American Hall of Honor calls for nominations | News, Sports, Jobs


BISMARCK – Nominations are underway for the 2022 North Dakota Native American Hall of Honor.

Located in the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum in Bismarck, the ND Native American Hall of Honor’s annual program and exhibit recognizes Native Americans who went above and beyond to represent their tribes and cultures. The program is a partnership between the State Historical Society of North Dakota, the North Dakota Indian Affairs Commission, and the State Historical Society Foundation.

Traditional and contemporary achievements are recognized in the following categories: arts and culture, athletics, leadership, legendary, and military / veterans. Applicants can be alive or in memoriam. Online applications are available on the ND Indian Affairs Commission website. The deadline for applications is February 18 at 5 p.m.

“This program honors historic and contemporary Indigenous leaders for their significant contributions. These people are the inspiration for future generations ”, said Nathan Davis, Indian Commissioner for North Dakota.

Up to two people per category are accepted into the Hall of Honor each year. The honorary ceremony will take place on September 8. The recipients will be featured in the ND Native American Hall of Honor exhibit at the State Museum. The 2021 exhibition of the current winners is open to the public.
