IMPHAL: As many as four indigenous tribes in Manipur on Thursday announced their support for the state government’s campaign against drugs.
The Joint Tribe Council (JTC) and the Joint Tribe Students’ Association, on behalf of the Inpui, Liangmai, Rongmei and Zeme tribes in Manipur, submitted a statement to CM Biren Singh stating their support for the state government’s campaign against Drugs.
The statement states that the four related indigenous tribes of Manipur: Inpui, Laingmai, Rongmei and Zeme have never practiced poppy cultivation or been involved in any illicit drug trade.
The statement further reiterated the position of the four tribes against the illegal drug trade and poppy cultivation.

The joint organizations of the tribes have also decided to continue to preserve and conserve the intact forests and their resources.
Meanwhile, emphasizing the detrimental effects of poppy cultivation on the environment, including deforestation, degradation of soil fertility and pollution of water bodies, Manipur CM Biren Singh called on all those carrying out activities related to drugs to stop it and support the state. the government’s “War on Drugs” campaign.
